Air Gun Mechanism
If you are a gunner then you might have wondered about how the air gun actually works. With the ever changing technology, even high tech air rifles are available in the market. There might be varieties of such guns available but their main working principle is almost same.
Here is an overview of how an air rifle works:
- An air gun’s locking safety has an automatic mechanism. At the end of the compression tube, you can find the safety slide. The safety can be considered as on, if the safety button is completely backward and if you can see the white dot.The safety can be considered as off if the safety button is completely pushed forward and if you cannot see the white dot.
- Usually the adjustment of the trigger is not required for most of the shooters. Only if you are an experienced shooter, then you try adjusting the trigger.Air rifles come with an adjusting screw.
- Air guns which are break barrel, single shot and spring piston rifles, need cocking just for once. The muzzle break acts as a handle and a lever for cocking. You have to pull down on the barrel end in a single action for cocking the air gun. This leads to compression of the spring and piston, which results into air drawn into the compression chamber. For cocking the air gun, you can point it in a direction which is safe but your finger must be kept off the trigger.
- For ensuring no pellets are present in the barrel, you can use a cleaning rod and make sure that the air gun is empty. Rifle malfunctioning can be caused if you try inserting many pellets which can be actually dangerous. And make sure that in the air rifle, the pellets are placed in one single direction.
